Harry Potter Scarf

Please go here for the updated pattern!!

Harry Potter Scarf

I started this scarf (the burgandy/gold one) on Thurday night (June 3, 2004). I had made a PS/COS scarf before, but I needed a POA style scarf to wear while I saw the new Harry Potter movie. I finished it Friday -- while I was at the theater. As soon as I sewed in the last end and put my stuff away, the lights went out and the trailers started. Just in time!
This is how I made it. Materials: I hook. Burgandy yarn. Gold Yarn. Scissors, yarn needle.

With burgandy yarn, ch 32. Dc in 4th ch from hook, and in each chain across.
*Ch 3, turn. Dc in each dc.* Ch 3, turn. Repeat from * to * for 9 rows.
Change color to gold. With gold, ch 3, turn. Dc in each dc across.
Change back to burgandy. *Ch 3, turn. Dc in each dc across* Repeat for 2 rows. Change to gold. With gold, ch 3, turn. Dc in each dc across.

[Change to burgandy. *Ch 3, turn. Dc in each dc.* Ch 3, turn. Repeat from * to * for 10 rows.
Change color to gold. With gold, ch 3, turn. Dc in each dc across.
Change back to burgandy. *Ch 3, turn. Dc in each dc across* Repeat for 2 rows. Change to gold. With gold, ch 3, turn. Dc in each dc across.]
Repeat in between brackets [ ] until scarf is desired length, ending with 10 rows of burgandy.

Hi, I stumbled upon your site while looking for HP scarf pattern. A knitted version referred me here. I'm an avid crocheter, and a remedial knitter.
Question: when designing your crochet version of P of A scarf, did you consider sc? I'm trying sc versus dc. DC gives move "movement"/flexibilty to the scraf, but sc is denser & more like knitted version.

I'm using Red Heart Super Saver.

In answer to your question, yes, I did consider single crochet. But, I'm impatient and I wanted to finish this scarf fast (I started it the night before movie 3 was released and I finished it as soon as the lights went out in the theater and the trailers started), that's why I made it in double crochet.

    Thanks for your comment! :)

Great scarf! I am REALLY new at crocheting and am loving it! I would love to try this scarf but in a SC...Can you help? Again, since I am way new to crocheting, would I just simply substitute a SC for a DC in your pattern or would the whole pattern be different?

You could just substitute to dc for the sc, but then the size of stripes would change. What I would do is, for each row of dc, do two rows of sc. So, like for the gold stripe, do two rows of sc instead of one row of dc. And as for the burgandy, work 20 rows of sc instead of 10 rows of dc.

I hope this helps you out!

Hello! Love your scarf! Have you made any other Harry Potter scarves? I finished my SS/CoS Gryffindor scarf a couple of weeks ago and I am currently working on my SS/Cos Slytherin scarf. I am also going to make a Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff one too. Eventually I'll start making the PoA/GoF ones too. I'd like to see any of your other Harry Potter related projects if you have any!
